Tift Regional Data Breach Settlement: Up to $5,000 or About $75 Cash

In August 2022, Tift Regional Health System and Southwell experienced what's being called the "Data Security Incident", a targeted cyberattack on their computer systems. Files that may have been accessed included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and medical information. The lawsuit claims Tift failed to adequately safeguard this data.

Tift denies any wrongdoing, and no court has ruled on the merits. To avoid the expense, uncertainty, and delay of continued litigation, both sides agreed to settle. The Court has granted preliminary approval, with a Final Approval Hearing set for September 14, 2026, where a decision on final approval will be made.

You may qualify if your private information was potentially compromised in the August 2022 incident, including if you received a breach notification. Eligible individuals can select credit monitoring services along with one of two cash payment options.

The Documented Loss Payment covers actual out-of-pocket costs connected to the breach, things like identity theft or fraud losses, credit report or credit freeze fees, ID replacement costs, and postage, up to $5,000.00, for losses incurred between August 11, 2022 and October 15, 2026. You'll need to provide proof, and any amount already reimbursed by another source can't be claimed again.

Alternatively, there's a one-time Alternative Cash Payment, currently estimated at about $75.00 per person. Since this option splits whatever funds remain equally among everyone who chooses it, the actual amount could end up higher or lower. No documentation is needed for this option.

To submit a claim online, you'll need the LoginID and PIN printed on the notice mailed to you. If you can't locate these, email the Settlement Administrator at [email protected] with your full name and mailing address to request them. Signing the Claim Form means you're affirming the information provided is accurate, and the Administrator may follow up requesting additional details before considering your claim complete.
