Eligibility
Who may qualify?
Check the covered dates, products, locations, and other official terms before you file.
- You received a Tesla vehicle in California before December 16, 2016.
- You continued to own that vehicle after December 16, 2016.
- You bought a vehicle that Tesla’s Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement described as “Supercharger Enabled,” “Supercharger Hardware,” or “Supercharger Hardware & Access” before December 16, 2016.
- You paid Supercharger “Idle Fees” to Tesla, and/or your vehicle’s Supercharger access was disabled for failure to pay those fees (required only if you want the Idle Fee refund or a $50/$350 disabling payment).

What this settlement is about
A class action called Shenkman v. Tesla, Inc., filed in the Superior Court for Alameda County, California, accuses Tesla of wrongly charging "Idle Fees" to certain customers who purchased vehicles with free lifetime Supercharging, and of disabling — or threatening to disable — Supercharger access for those who wouldn't pay. Tesla denies any wrongdoing, and the court hasn't ruled on the claims, but both sides have agreed to settle. The deal has received preliminary approval, with a Final Approval Hearing set for December 2, 2026, where the court will decide whether to approve it for good.
If you qualify, you generally won't need to submit documentation to file a claim — just complete a valid Claim Form and certify under penalty of perjury that you meet the criteria. Tesla will use its own records to verify eligibility and calculate your refund. For the up to $350 payment, you'll need to list the year(s) your vehicle's Supercharger access was disabled, which Tesla will cross-check against its records.
