Case overview

What is the Ford Motor Company settlement about?

A class action lawsuit alleges that Ford's "Transit Trail" package is defective, claiming that on certain model year 2023 and 2024 Ford Transit Trail vehicles, the tires lack adequate clearance inside the wheel wells under some driving conditions. Ford denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty, expense, and delay of further litigation.

The Court has granted preliminary approval of the settlement, with a final approval hearing scheduled for March 16, 2027. Payments will not be distributed until the Court grants final approval and the settlement becomes final.

You may be eligible if you were the original owner or lessee of a new 2023 or 2024 Ford Transit Trail, purchased or leased before June 1, 2024, for personal, family, or household purposes. The vehicle must have been obtained from an Authorized Ford Dealer or from an outfitter, upfitter, or other intermediary that bought it new for resale or conversion. Selling the vehicle since then does not disqualify you. However, you are not eligible if you bought the vehicle used from a private party, used it for business purposes, or have already received payment from Ford for it, for instance, if Ford previously bought back your vehicle.

Each valid claim qualifies for a flat $6,000 payment per Class Vehicle, issued by check. There are no payment tiers or extra reimbursements, and only one claim is allowed per vehicle, if there are multiple owners, only a single claim should be filed, with payment made by one check to the claimant.

Claims must include supporting documentation: your vehicle's VIN, a completed IRS Form W-9 or equivalent tax information, and a copy of your original purchase or lease agreement. If that's unavailable, other proof showing your name, VIN, and original purchase or lease date will work, such as a bill of sale, buyer's order, lease summary, certificate of title, initial registration, DMV record, financing record, or dealer invoice. Claimants must sign under penalty of perjury, confirming they were the original owner or lessee, used the vehicle for personal purposes, and have not already been compensated by Ford for it. The Settlement Administrator may request additional documents, and if a claim is denied for missing information, claimants will be notified of the reason and given 30 days to correct it.

To check eligibility, look for a Postcard Notice mailed to you, which includes a 10-character "Unique ID" and 4-digit "PIN" at the bottom, both are required to file a claim online. If you didn't receive or have lost your postcard, contact the Settlement Administrator directly.

After submitting a claim, you'll receive a confirmation code by email, which you should keep for your records.
