According to the claims, these streaming websites and apps tracked what users watched and then shared that viewing activity alongside personally identifiable information, such as email addresses or location data, with outside third parties, without getting proper consent first. The allegations center on potential violations of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), a law designed to protect the privacy of people's video-watching habits. Anyone who used these Versant-owned platforms and had their data shared this way may be eligible to bring an individual arbitration claim, with potential recovery of up to $2,500 per claim.
